Project-Based Courses for Students

I’ve built businesses and coached and trained leaders,
but I teach entrepreneurship to students because building something
of one’s own, and working to perfect it to be valued by others,
carries more lessons about life, uncapped potential, creativity
and personal agency than anything else I could imagine.

Ms. Phelps, I cannot thank you enough for all I learned from you this summer. This was an experience of a lifetime.
I find it utterly necessary to point out what a great teacher you are. From the first class, I knew this course was going to be an unforgettable experience. The care you brought to every explanation, the care you took mixing summertime with learning,
and the patience you had with us was unbelievable, and new to me.
But what I really admired was that you always asked us what you could do to improve.
In those moments, I saw the best quality for anyone's future: "growth-mentality.”
I am aware this may sound cheesy, but it couldn't be closer to reality.
Thank you for a learning experience and summer of life-long memories.

Persuasive Speaking - The Art & Science of Influence

Students walk away with a visceral understanding of how to advocate for their own success.

This weekend course immerses students in the art and science of persuasion. Rather than sit and learn theory, they apply psychological and structural fundamentals to their everyday life goals, from negotiating with parents for increased autonomy to convincing a coach they belong in the starting lineup or a friend to try out for a spring sport.

Students learn inside different persuasive challenges that advance from low- to high-stakes. They learn to know their audience, construct impeccable arguments, preempt objections, craft their language to shift even the most intractable views, utilize calls to action – all while exuding their natural charisma with ethical stewardship.

These core principles are ingrained through repetition and live practice that results in foundational shifts in how they think and lead. Whether writing college essays, navigating high-pressure interviews, or rising to future leadership roles, students walk away with a visceral understanding of how to advocate for their own success.

This course turns the "art of the ask" into a repeatable, high-level skill set.

Pitching Your Innovation

An innovation is only as good as the student’s ability to defend its value.

Using fundamentals taught in Persuasive Speaking, students who have completed an innovation project or business idea learn the structure and sequence of a pitch presentation, as well as the power of dynamic delivery.

A pitch does one thing: it proves an argument. If they don’t buy what you’re saying, they won’t buy what you’re selling.

Students begin by shaping and articulating their overarching thesis. Next, they research and organize the evidence for the three pillars of any business or innovation—the problem, the customer, and the solution—that proves their argument.

They learn and craft the  story arc, the strategic sequence, of unfolding their narrative for maximum psychological and persuasive impact and learn to tell their story visually, with and without slides.

Students practice their pitches, discover their natural charisma, and learn how to use it to win the hearts, not just the minds, of their audiences. To ensure long-term success, they internalize follow-up strategies designed to clinch the "yes."

This experience transforms students into compelling advocates for their own ideas.

Beyond the innovation lab, it equips them to enter any high-stakes room—from university interviews to future boardrooms—able to command the narrative and secure the "yes" they need for their own success.

Building Your Social Impact Business

A 4-week summer camp or during-school business simulation course that immerses students in thinking through and pitching a business that does "good” and does well.

Being part of Ms. Phelps’ class made me feel like I was part of something great. The way she teaches, her positive energy, and her constant motivation made me want to be there every day. During my time in her leadership course, I learned a lot about how to be a great and positive leader, but most importantly, about myself as an individual, my strengths and my weaknesses. That’s why I think everyone should take this course. Even if you feel like you’re already a good leader, I guarantee you will learn many things that will make you a better one. I also learned so much about ideation and how innovating something is exhausting and can feel impossible, but it’s also the most satisfying feeling ever when you finally come up with the idea! I had such a blast here. I am extremely lucky to have met everyone in my team, who may be future partners! I will tell all my friends about the amazing project we created because I am so proud of what we accomplished in just 3 weeks. I hope my story will inspire them to find solutions to problems that affect them like I did!
